University of Tabriz Joins BRICS Academic Network’s “Water Resources and Pollution Control” Working Group

Dr. Saeed Shojaei, Director of Scientific and International Cooperation at the University of Tabriz, announced the university’s membership in the “Water Resources and Pollution Control” working group within the BRICS Academic Network.

According to the university’s public relations office, Dr. Shojaei stated that the BRICS Academic Network is one of the most significant scientific and educational initiatives among BRICS member countries. Its mission is to foster academic collaboration, conduct joint research projects, facilitate faculty and student exchanges, and elevate the global standing of member universities.

He added that leading universities from around the world are part of this working group, including Saint Petersburg University in Russia, the University of Technology in South Africa, the American University of Sharjah, Sichuan University in China, and several other prestigious institutions.

Dr. Shojaei explained that the University of Tabriz’s role in this group involves active participation in developing a roadmap for managing water resources and proposing innovative methods to reduce air pollution across BRICS countries, through collaboration and engagement with fellow member universities.

He noted that the BRICS Academic Network was established in 2015 to expand scientific cooperation, launch joint research initiatives, promote student mobility, and design innovative educational programs.

Currently, the network includes major universities and research institutions from Iran, Russia, China, India, Brazil, South Africa, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. The total number of members has surpassed 178 institutions worldwide.

Dr. Shojaei also highlighted the network’s key priorities, which include advancing research and collaboration in fields such as computer science and cybersecurity, BRICS studies, energy, environment and climate change, water resources and pollution control, economics, mathematics and natural sciences, humanities and social sciences, sustainable agriculture and food security, and health sciences.

The University of Tabriz’s inclusion in this distinguished network presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen scientific diplomacy and promote the internationalization of higher education. It paves the way for joint research projects, technological innovation, faculty and student exchanges, and active participation in global academic events and conferences.
